DVD and Workbook
A panel of bilingual EIFS contractors and applicators, union members and EIFS manufacturer representatives was enlisted to provide technical assistance and advice in the Spanish translation of the EIFS—Doing It Right® self-study format and certification exam. "Universal" Spanish is used since each of the 20 Spanish speaking countries has a different dialect and some dialects are almost like a different language. "Universal" Spanish can be best understood among all the dialects. Reviews of the DVD and accompanying workbook by Spanish-speaking EIFS applicators have been extremely positive.
The self-study workbook contains a glossary listing regional variations of key terms. In many instances, English words have been added along with the Spanish words to the DVD and workbook to aid applicators who know some job-specific terms only in English.
The EIFS mechanic's certification exam has been thoroughly reviewed and updated incorporating the more basic and understandable terms used in the DVD and workbook. All changes were scrutinized by bilingual panel members from a practical user perspective. In addition, the Spanish exam underwent "back translation" by an additional linguist to ensure that the intent of each question was maintained during translation. The Spanish version of the exam has a tool that allows the examinee to switch back and forth from English to Spanish to aid in comprehension.
