It is not that often—especially in this economy—that you hear about somebody giving something good away. Sure, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The key word here, though, is probably.
In this case, it is good, and it is true. AWCI Cares has money to give away to those in need. Just ask for it.
AWCI Cares, a program sponsored by AWCI and funded and managed by the Foundation of the Wall and Ceiling Industry, has money to give away to help the employees and families of AWCI member companies who have experienced a major illness, accident or hardship beyond their insurance and financial capabilities.
The AWCI member company and the employee just have to fill out an application and submit it to AWCI Cares for consideration. Grants are awarded based on the documentation of need, other pending requests and total funds available. The average grant is $2,400.
Application forms are available from the AWCI Web site. Just go to www.awci.org and click the "Foundation of the Wall and Ceiling Industry” tab on the left side of the page. About halfway down the Foundation’s page, you will find the forms you need to download to apply for a grant.

ACT Announces INTEX Winners
Architectural Contractors Trade Association, an AWCI chapter in Farmington Hills, Mich., recognized four area subcontractors for their hard work and outstanding construction projects at the 14th Annual INTEX Achievement Awards on April 21, 2009, at the Troy Marriott. This year’s INTEX Award ceremony honored the nominees and their projects that were completed in 2008.
More than 150 people attended the event including ACT members, industry and union partners.
"Even during the difficult economic climate Michigan is experiencing it is still imperative we show unity and support the unionized construction industry,” stated Jess Saylor, ACT’s president. "For 14 years ACT has acknowledged the quality work the subcontractor community has made to our industry through the INTEX Achievement Awards.”
Established in 1995 to acknowledge outstanding achievements in interior and exterior construction projects, the INTEX Achievement Award is open to all union contractors. The ACT Promotion Committee and a panel of architects judge the projects. Criteria for the award include aesthetics, workmanship and difficulty of installation and scope of work. In the past 14 years more than 39 INTEX Awards have been given out to 29 different companies.

Join an AWCI Business Forum
You should consider joining an AWCI Business Forum if you can answer yes to this question: Would it be helpful to you and your business if you could meet others like yourself to exchange ideas and information?
AWCI’s Business Forums are made up of contractor members who share common problems and/or want to learn from their fellow contractors. No competing-company contractors are in the same forum, so the contractors can speak freely—some even share financial information. No minutes are taken during the meetings, and what happens at those meetings is known only to the forum members in attendance.
AWCI provides the confidential, trustful environment for the meeting twice a year—at AWCI’s Industry Executives’ Conference & Committee Week and at the AWCI annual convention. But because some forum groups enjoy spending more time together in a year, some will hold meetings outside the AWCI meetings. Some forum members have visited each others’ places of business.
AWCI will also help new forum members decide if they would fit well into an existing forum group, or, if enough interest is generated, a new forum group will be started
