Focus on What Is Important

Mike Taylor / April 2017

First of all, I want to thank all those involved in organizing AWCI’s Convention & INTEX Expo last month in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. I hope that it was an enjoyable and educational experience for all delegates.

It was the last major event of my tenure as your 85th AWCI president. I will be turning over the reins to President-elect Ed Sellers of OCP Contractors on July 1.

I will remember the many sponsors who donated time and money to make this convention so successful. We are very grateful to all of you. I will remember the men and women who took time away from their business to work on so many of our committees, councils, educational sessions and forum groups, all for the betterment of our industry. I will remember the opening session and the awards presentation brunch, and how impressive the winners were.

But most of all I will remember the many faces and friendships forged over the years in AWCI and the pleasure of seeing all of you gathered at these events. It has truly been an honor to serve as your president and an enjoyable experience that I know will continue for the next three months. The time together with many good friends and getting to know new friends is invaluable to me and my closest adviser and best friend, Mrs. Taylor.

Let me end with what I think is really important—something I think we should all focus on. Often we spend our time and thoughts on things we can’t change or have no control in. Don’t get so caught up running your companies that you forget to focus on the most important thing in your lives: your families.

Hope to see you soon.

In addition to being 2016–2017 president of the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry, Taylor is executive vice president of Liddle Bros. Contractors, Inc. in Nashville, Tenn.
