SENERFLEX® CLASSIC PB WALL SYSTEM, Class PB Exterior Insulation and Finish System (EIFS)
2. MANUFACTURER
Composition and Materials: The Senerflex Wall System is comprised of four basic components: expanded polystyrene insulation board, adhesive/base coat, reinforcing mesh, and finish coat. Senergy satisfies project needs with a wide variety of options for each of these basic components. Certain substrates may require application of primer or other surface preparation prior to receiving the Senerflex Wall System; Senergy offers a full line of these related products as well.
* Insulation Board
* Adhesive/Base Coat Alpha Genie Base Coat - 100% acrylic polymer, fiber reinforced base coat, adhesive and leveler that is field mixed 1:1 by weight with Type I or II Portland cement. Composition makes it ideal for high build situations, such as leveling shallow spots up to 1/8" per pass; ¼" total. Alpha Base Coat - 100% acrylic polymer base coat (mixed 1:1 by weight with Type I or II Portland cement) has properties and applications similar to Standard Base Coat. Alpha Base Coat contains a finer aggregate and thus has a creamier consistency than Standard Base Coat. Alpha Base Coat is well suited for finer-aggregate finishes. Xtra-Stop Base Coat - 100% acrylic polymer based waterproof base coat, mixed 1:1 by weight with Type I or II Portland cement. Tested for Hydrostatic Resistance per ASTM D 751, Xtra-Stop Base Coat can be used in areas where excessive rain or moisture may be present, such as downspout splash areas, roof mechanical room walls, and sloped surfaces. Xtra-Stop is used to adhere expanded polystyrene insulation board to substrates of unpainted and unglazed concrete or to unit masonry; Dens-Glass Gold or gypsum sheathing. NC-II Base - 100% acrylic polymer, non-cementitious, factory-mixed base coat that is ready to use directly from the pail. NC-II Base can be used to embed reinforcing mesh as well as to attach the insulation board to substrates including gypsum sheathing, Dens-Glass Gold, unpainted and unglazed unit masonry or concrete. Senerquick Adhesive - 100% acrylic polymer non-cementitious, factory-mixed, adhesive that is ready to use directly from the pail. Senerquick's buttery consistency makes it easy to spread with little effort. As its name suggests, Senerquick Adhesive is for adhesive purposes only. It is specially formulated to adhere insulation board to unpainted and unglazed unit masonry or concrete, gypsum sheathing and Dens-Glass Gold substrates. Senerquick Adhesive is not intended as a high-build product. Alpha Dry Base Coat - factory- prepared, dry-mix cementitious base coat. Alpha Dry Base Coat has the same applications as regular Alpha Base Coat but with the added convenience of a bagged product. Portland cement is already included in the dry base mix; only clean, potable water needs to be added to Alpha Dry Base Coat.
* Reinforcing Mesh Flexguard 4 - the most commonly used mesh. A single-layer application of Flexguard 4 is suitable for areas not expected to receive abnormal abuse or traffic. Flexguard 6 - somewhat heavier than Flexguard 4. A single-layer application of Flexguard 6 is suitable for areas not expected to receive abnormal abuse or traffic. Flexguard 12 - versatile, intermediate-weight mesh. While suitable for use as a single-layer application, Flexguard 12 is often used in conjunction with Flexguard 4 or 6 to offer added impact resistance at specific areas (i.e., around doors, walkways, or entire first floors). Flexguard 15 - heavy-weight mesh intended for areas expected to receive high degrees of traffic and abuse. Flexguard 15 has special installation procedures: the edges must be butted in lieu of overlapped; Flexguard 15 requires a continuous and lapped overlay of Flexguard 4 or 6. Do not use Flexguard 15 to backwrap or bend around corners. Flexguard 20 - heavy-weight mesh intended for areas expected to receive high degrees of traffic and abuse. Flexguard 20 also has the same special installation procedures as Flexguard 15. Corner Grid - intermediate weight mesh that can be used at exterior corners when added impact resistance and/or clean, crisp corners are desired. Corner Grid is pre- marked for easy bending. An overlay of Flexguard 4, 6 or 12 is required when Corner Grid is used.
* Tinted Primer
* Finish Coat Fine Finish - contains fine aggregate to provide a uniform, sand-like appearance. Sahara Finish - contains varied aggregate sizes for a uniform, pebbled appearance. Classic Finish - when floated with a trowel, the varied aggregate sizes in this finish provide a classic worm-holed appearance. Belgian Lace Finish - a finer version of "Classic". Encausto Verona - Factory-mixed, 100% acrylic polymer finish. Available in Senergy's standard colors and custom colors. Use uniformly sized aggregates to achieve a free formed, flat texture. A mottled look can be achieved by combining multiple colors. Aurora Stone Finish - a spray and trowel applied finish that delivers a rich natural stone-like appearance. Texture Finish - very fine aggregate provides a smooth, fine finish that offers a variety of textured appearances such as stipple, skip-trowel, and lace. Silcoat Finishes - siliconized, acrylic emulsion finishes with enhanced water- and mildew-resistance; available in Fine, Sahara, Classic, Belgian Lace and Texture. Aurora TC-100 Finish - colored aggregate contained in a transparent acrylic binder can be applied to achieve a smooth or rough natural stone-like appearance. Borealis Finish - colored aggregate and mica chips provide an aesthetically unique stone-like appearance. Aurora Stone - Factory-mixed, variegated finish consisting of colored aggregates in a transparent 100% acrylic binder and applied over Senergy Tinted Primer. Available in 12 standard colors. Aurora Stone Finish provides a rough, stone-like appearance. Limitations: All Senergy System materials must be stored out of inclement weather and kept in a cool, dry area. Protect from extreme heat and direct sunlight. The adhesives, base coats and finish coats must further be protected from freezing. These materials must be stored at no less than 4°C/40°F (10° C/50°F for Borealis and Aurora TC-100 and Aurora Stone Finishes). If stored properly and in sealed containers, Senergy base coats and finish coats have a shelf life of two years. Store insulation board flat and protected from direct sunlight and extreme heat. * Application:
All terminations of the Senerflex
Wall System shall be backwrapped
with base coat and reinforcing mesh
overlapping the substrate behind the
board and onto the face of the
insulation board a minimum 63 mm (2 1/2"), for complete encapsulation.
Encapsulation shall be accomplished
after installation of the insulation
board, and prior to application of the
reinforcing mesh in the field of the
board.
Senerprime - apply to substrate
with a 10 mm (3/8") nap roller, good
quality latex paint brush, or spray apply
at a rate of 18.5-37.1 m2 per liter (200 - 400 ft.2 per gallon). Allow to dry to the
touch before proceeding to base
coat/insulation board application.
Senerflex Insulation Board - start
from firm, permanent or temporary
support. Apply insulation board
horizontally in a running bond. Pre-cut
board to fit openings and
projections. Stagger vertical joints
and corners. Stagger insulation and
sheathing board joints.
The option of "notched trowel" or
"ribbon and dab" method of
application may be available depending upon
the type of substrate and adhesive
base coat selected.
With the notched trowel method,
the adhesive base coat is applied
over the entire surface of the
insulation board using a trowel with
13 mm x 13 mm (1/2" x 1/2") notches
spaced 13 mm (1/2") apart, or 10
mm x 10 mm (3/8" X 3/8") notches spaced
10 mm (3/8") apart. Only the notched
trowel method is acceptable when
utilizing Senerquick Adhesive, and
the trowel must have 5 mm x 5 mm
(3/16" X 3/16") notches spaced 5 mm (3/16")
apart.
With the ribbon and dab method,
the base coat is applied to the
perimeter of the insulation board in
ribbons approximately 50 mm (2")
wide by 10 mm (3/8'') thick to entire
perimeter of each board. Apply dabs
or ribbons of 10 mm (3/8") thickness
and 100 mm (4") in diameter
approximately 200 mm (8") on
center to interior surface of board.
Abut all joints tightly and ensure
an overall flush, level surface.
Adhesion should be checked
periodically by removing a board
prior to set.
Cut slivers of insulation board
and fit into any remaining gaps
between insulation boards.
Allow the application of the
insulation board to dry (normally 8
to 10 hours) prior to application of
the base coat/reinforcing mesh.
Senerflex Corner Grid - Apply
Senerflex Corner Grid prior to
application of Flexguard reinforcing
mesh. Cut Senerflex Corner Grid to
workable lengths. Apply mixed
Senerflex Base Coat to the outside
corners of the insulation board using
a stainless steel trowel.
Immediately place Corner Grid
against wet base coat and embed
Corner Grid into base coat by
troweling from the corner. Senerflex
Base Coat must be completely dry
before applying Flexguard
reinforcing mesh over the entire
surface.
Flexguard Reinforcing Mesh - apply
mixed Senerflex Base Coat to entire
surface of insulation board
(including Corner Grid if utilized)
with a stainless steel trowel,
troweling from the center to the
edge of the mesh to avoid wrinkles.
When two layers of reinforcing
mesh are utilized, immediately
place the heaviest weight mesh
against the wet base coat and
embed the mesh into the base coat
by troweling from the center to the
edges. Apply Flexguard 4 or 6
reinforcing mesh over the previous
layer in accordance with Senerflex
Wall System specifications.
When utilizing Flexguard 4, 6 or
12 reinforcing mesh, the edges must
be lapped a minimum of 64 mm (2 1/2")
and shall be continuous at corners.
When utilizing Flexguard 15 or 20
reinforcing mesh, the edges are
butted - not overlapped. Flexguard
15 or 20 is not to be used for back
wrapping nor bending around
corners.
The reinforcing mesh shall be
embedded in the base coat with no
mesh color visible, nominal 1.6 mm
(1/16").
All EPS shapes installed over
the Senerflex System shall have
reinforcing mesh fully embedded
into the base coat.
Allow the base coat with the
embedded mesh to dry hard
(normally 8 to 10 hours) before
proceeding to the finish coat
application.
Senergy Finish (Sahara, Classic, Belgian Lace, Texture, Encausto Verona, Silcoat,
Borealis, Aurora TC-100, Aurora Stone) - apply Senergy Finish
directly to reinforced base coat with
a clean, stainless steel trowel to
thickness required for type of finish
specified. Maintain a wet edge by
applying and texturing continually
over the wall surface. Work the
finish to all corners, joints or
natural breaks and do not allow
material to set within an
uninterrupted wall area. Final texture
of the finish is typically achieved
with a trowel or float, but is
dependent upon the type of finish
selected as well as desired
appearance.
