Thanks for the Ride
Mike Taylor / June 2017
It has been my honour and privilege to serve as your president over the year. As I look back, I can’t believe how fast it has passed.
On behalf of the AWCI, I have attended many events across this great country and overseas to Australia—a trip I will never forget. The common thread in all of these events was the talented, committed, hard-working people dedicated to improving our industry.
The way work gets done may vary a bit from one area to another, but the end result is always the same: quality workmanship delivered on time and on budget.
The challenges we face are also very similar: manpower shortages, inexperienced people at all levels, reduced productivity and slim margins. We wonder if and when things will change for the better.
I am encouraged, however, and see that we are overcoming these challenges, which will make our companies stronger and better (in most cases) than they have ever been.
It has been my privilege to work with Steve Etkin and his very talented staff. They work hard to keep our association positioned to lead our industry. Simply put, they are the best.
I want to thank my wife Dee—my number-one supporter—for all that she has done for me over the past year. She has made this an experience we will both always treasure.
I wish incoming president Ed Sellers the best and look forward to his leadership over the next 12 months. He brings a vast amount of experience to our association and will do a great job representing us.
I also wish all of you the best and look forward to seeing you down the road.
Thanks for the ride.
In addition to being 2016–2017 president of the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry, Taylor is executive vice president of Liddle Bros. Contractors, Inc. in Nashville, Tenn.
