What Drives Our Industry’s Success?

Travis Vap / July 2022

Thank you all for the honor to be the president of the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry for the next year.

Did you know that the 50 most active AWCI contractor member companies account for well over 90% of the revenue on the Engineering News-Record’s top wall and ceiling contractors list?

What do these contractors know about AWCI, and why are they such active participants in our association?

When we really dig into this we find common themes that appear among these 50 companies: prefabrication, virtual design, robotic total stations, drywall milling and steel rolling machines, kitting practices, lean construction, digital takeoff software, safety practices, technical know-how, benchmark groups, shared best practices, solid manufacturer and supplier relationships, advisory groups and a desire to leave our industry better than when they started.

What do these companies know that they want every member to know? That they didn’t come up with these ideas themselves. They know that if they didn’t come to our convention, attend our leadership conference, read AWCI’s Construction Dimensions, participate on our board, task forces and committees, they would have missed huge opportunities for their companies.

They know that our association is a place for people to come together, share ideas, learn about new products and technology, address our industry’s issues and leave with even more ideas than they came with. They want you to know that without the relationships and knowledge they have built through AWCI, they wouldn’t be where they are today. They want you to know that everyone is welcome in our association; the more people who actively participate in AWCI, the better our industry will be.

Make sure you do not miss AWCI’s Industry Leaders Conference being held in New York City this October. This year’s event will have three dedicated tracks for our attendees: an executive track, an emerging leader track and a safety professionals track. This conference will give you the opportunity to learn something new, get inspired, bring value back to your business, meet industry experts, meet new people and improve yourself.

I look forward to meeting each of you over the coming year and thank you all for this opportunity to be your president.

In addition to being 2022–2023 president of the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry, Travis Vap is CEO of South Valley Drywall, Inc. in Littleton, Colo.
