Mixed Results for Manufacturers and Distributors in August

The September ISA Economic Indicator Report from the Industrial Supply Association showed mixed results for Distributors and Manufacturers during the month of August.

The ISA Manufacturer Index increased from 53.1 in July to 58.2 in August, while the Distributor Index declined from 62.2 in July to 60.1.

“Even though this month’s report shows mixed results for manufacturers and distributors, both indices remain in positive territory, indicating an expanding economy for our members,” said Bryon Shafer, general manager of ASG Industrial and chair of ISA’s Strategic Information Committee. “The Anticipated Business Conditions Index and the Anticipated New Orders Index were down slightly from last month, and comments from members suggest that some companies are cautious about prospects next month.”

For each index, a reading above 50 percent indicates expansion, while a reading below 50 percent indicates contraction. The indexes have been above 50 percent since December 2012.
