Based on its reputation for top quality construction, AWCI member Ronsco, Inc. was chosen for this job for CA Technologies, one of the world’s largest independent computer software companies.
Aiming for LEED Silver, this high-end conference and meeting space’s design and construction challenges were daunting: Two meeting rooms are round, four conference rooms have curved walls and elliptical ceiling coves. The reception area has curved walls and a round inset within, in addition to radiused ceiling coves.
As the wall and ceiling contractor, Ronsco drove the project from its inception. It spearheaded shop drawing preparation and coordination with other trades. Ronsco also had to rely on its own creativity and craftsmanship when late-arriving fixtures didn’t fit properly into the grid.
The layout was completed on 1-foot plot points. Two levels of trim, one cantilevered and one for the back, made up the majority of the light coves. The conference room design featured ceiling ellipses with a tight radii—it was up to Ronsco to figure out how to construct them. The team prefabricated the coves using wood framing and wiggle board with quarter-inch drywall in sections, mounted to an intermediate black iron suspension. A notched/flexible aluminum tape-able “L” trim was used on the inside to cover the 1-inch block used to hold the lens. For the outside, the wall molding was custom factory radiused.
Every straight bead was laser leveled and installed to exacting quality standards, making sure they were properly aligned with all the architectural finishes (millwork, metal and glass partitions, glazing).
Critical lighting changed throughout the project—day and night, natural and artificial, but Ronsco was able to finish it off with a Level 5, and every detail met the zero-tolerance standards.
Ronsco’s attention to detail and expertise paid off. CA Technologies regards this new space as a brilliant jewel box. Within a few months of completion, the facility had received rave reviews for its quality and design.
