AWCI Meeting a Big Hit

As I wrote this message from Colorado Springs, Colo., we were winding down a great week at AWCI’s 2006 Industry Executives’ Conference & Committee Week. We had two highly qualified speakers for our education sessions during the conference who talked about two of the hottest topics out there. Carlos Conejo covered Immigration Law Changes and the Construction Industry in his session, while Larry Oxenham addressed the group with his topic, Covering Your Assets: How to Safeguard Yourself, Your Family and Your Business, along with lawsuit protection and prevention. They were enlightening, well-done sessions and I’m sorry for those of you that didn’t get to attend.

AWCI’s forums and committee meetings were all well attended throughout the week. Everyone had opportunities to raise current construction industry issues, and there was plenty of time to network and catch up with old friends during the receptions and golf event.

Speaking of golf, the scheduled tournament was canceled when a surprise blizzard dropped a foot of snow on the city. But those of us with high handicaps were lucky because an indoor golf clinic was put on by the pros, where we got lessons in swinging and putting and a chance to show off our rejuvenated driving skills. The next day saw temperatures swing back into the 60s allowing for quick melting of the snow.

Marilyn and I want to thank everyone who took the time out of their busy schedules to join us in Colorado Springs, and we want to welcome everyone who made it and those who couldn’t to AWCI’s next big event, the AWCI Annual Convention and Intex Expo 2007. It is being held at the Swan and Dolphin Hotel in Orlando, Fla., April 1–5. No snow and no blizzards, guaranteed!
