April showers bring May flowers, and spring is in the air. The snow on the East Coast has melted away, but what a hammering we took this winter. From Florida’s record low temperatures to Washington’s and Philadelphia’s record snowfall, plus the monsoon-like rain storms on the West Coast to the unusually chilly temperatures in the heartland, it has been a winter to remember. My hunch is that Mother Nature has weighed in on the direction our great nation is heading and is clearly not happy about it.
With the energy conservation bus fully fueled and heading to a neighborhood near you, our association is taking proactive measures to assist in solutions to issues that are sure to plague our industry. Concerning the new energy conservation code, AWCI’s goal is to work with manufacturers and other associations to chart a collaborative approach in addressing issues for our membership and partners in construction. I would like to thank Mike Boyd for chairing our stucco energy task group. We look forward to a productive kick-off meeting at our Denver convention later this month.
In an effort to continue to use technology to improve productivity and keep an eye on preserving our environment, I am pleased to announce that the AWCI’s Industry Awards Committee has evaluated the 16 nominees received for AWCI’s 2010 Excellence in Construction Safety Award, and for the first time, the judging of these awards was done online. Thank you to AWCI’s treasurer, Tim Wies, who is also chairman of the awards committee, along with Joe O’Connor and Keith Williams of INTEC, for implementing this new evaluation system.
Keeping our membership informed of timely concise information from our media partners is the sole purpose of our newly debuted E:Dimensions newsletter and product spotlight. Go to www.awci.org/cd and click on “E:Dimensions” to view our premiere edition. E:Dimensions will be distributed every two months, while product spotlights are scheduled for twice a month. The creation of this new AWCI media vehicle is a result of collaborative brainstorming by our media department since last year. I believe this will be an excellent tool for our membership to keep abreast of new innovative products from our partners in manufacturing.
By now I am sure the economic stimulus bill has had profound positive effects on your business, and I look forward to sharing the success stories in Denver. Have a safe trip, and I look forward to a successful convention.
