“TJ Wies’ safety director and safety managers meet weekly to discuss current issues and trends. Toolbox talks are issued accordingly to address leading indicators. Plans are formulated to focus on problem areas. For example, in the recent past we identified a need to address blind spots on lifts and purchased camera systems containing a tablet showing a live feed in the basket to enable our employees to view the base of the lift and any blind spots while maneuvering. All of these elements are thoroughly reviewed and discussed in quarterly strategic planning meetings amongst the executive leadership team and changes to our overall corporate strategy are implemented accordingly. In addition to our employees’ safety, it is ideal to maintain our low EMR as insurance costs savings attributable to our EMR allow us to allocate resources to other essential areas during Strategic Planning.”

“Employees are encouraged to actively participate in OCP’s safety and health program by electing employees to our safety committee which involves all our trades, our regional safety managers, and our corporate safety manager. The safety committee meets monthly and opinions on policies and procedures, current events, and other safety related topics are shared. During morning huddles and stretch and flex, employees are encouraged to voice their concerns and safety needs for the day. If concerns are not met, employees have a direct line to the CEO and Corporate Safety Director to correct these concerns. Our Donut Box Talks Program rewards jobsites who have identified and corrected the most hazards from the previous month. Using our safety software system, Regional Safety Managers look at the leading indicators and provides donuts and coffee while providing training on the top three hazards recognized for that jobsite. These types of programs have led to open communication about safety throughout our organization from the bottom to the top and has encouraged the tough conversations to be had as all positions are equal when it comes to safety.”
