Brady Nominated to 2013 Executive Committee and Other Changes to AWCI Board

Gregg Brady, president of Brady Company/Central California, Inc., is following in the footsteps of his father, Ron Brady, by being elected to the AWCI Executive Committee.

At AWCI’s fall conference last month, the AWCI Nominating Committee nominated Brady to the chairs; the nomination was unanimously approved by the AWCI board of directors. Brady will join the committee as secretary on July 1, 2013, and become AWCI’s 2016–2017 president. His father was AWCI’s 1989–1990 president.

Other changes to AWCI’s board of directors include the addition of Chip McAlpin (F.L. Crane & Sons) as contractor at-large and William Courtney (ClarkDietrich) as supplier at-large. Both terms run from 2012 through 2015. Matt Townsend (OCP Contractors) will extend his term as contractor at-large for one year to complete the term of John Hinson (Marek Brothers Systems – Dallas), who will begin serving as AWCI’s secretary on July 1, 2012.

AWCI’s Fall Conference a Success

Nearly 140 people attended AWCI’s Industry Executives’ Conference & Committee Meetings in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Sept. 13–16, 2011.

The general sessions were well-received by attendees, who learned about critical trends in the industry from FMI consultant Ethan E. Cowles, and about bidding projects when costs are uncertain, which was headed by a panel of experts. All evaluations for both sessions showed that attendees thought they could apply information gained in these sessions to improve their business operation.

The Foundation of the Wall and Ceiling Industry held its fun fund-raising events, including the golf tournament, 50–50 Raffle and the second annual AWCI Cares Challenge of Champions, which involves games of skill based on the television show, “Minute to Win It.”

Ben and Caryl Lester won the AWCI Cares challenge, while the golf winners were as follows:
• The longest drive: John Lord

• Closest to the pin: Mark Nabity

• Longest putt: Jeff Burley

• Winning foursome: Steve Baker, Mark Nabity, Dan Wienstroer and Tim Wies.

And it wouldn’t be a successful conference if not for our sponsors. Lifetime members Steeler® Inc. and USG sponsored the event as a whole.

Sponsors of the golf tournament were National Gypsum, Association of Wall-Ceiling & Carpentry Industries of New York, ClarkDietrich Building Systems, Component Assembly Systems, Inc. and the EIFS Industry Members Association.

The AWCI Cares Challenge of Champions was sponsored by Smokey Mountain Materials, Inc. and South Central Wall, Ceiling & Plaster Association.

The 50–50 raffle raised $4,600 for the Foundation. First place went to Chip McAlpin of F.L. Crane & Sons, Inc., who won $2,300. Carol and Steve Baker of Baker Drywall, Ltd. won second place and were awarded $1,380, and Mike Taylor of Liddle Bros. Contractors, Inc. won $920.
