Fall Conference Features Education on Ethnic Workers and Succession

Join your fellow AWCI members Sept. 18–22, 2007, in San Diego for AWCI’s Industry Executives’ Conference & Committee Week, where education sessions will cover how to deal with a diverse work force, and succession planning.

Work Force 2010: Preparing for the Workplace Challenges of Tomorrow™, will take place on Sept. 20. Attend this session and you will walk away with the following:

-Find out how the changing workforce demographics are affecting your organization now, and for the next 10 years.

-Understand how different ethnic lifestyles and values impact your workplace.

-Realize how the immigrant work force is changing the way you must manage people.

-Learn the biggest myths about recruiting Hispanics and other ethnic groups.

-Understand the five most important things Hispanic workers want from the workplace.

-Find out how to give feedback to foreign-born employees.

-Discover the three crucial elements needed to train Hispanic and other ethnic groups.

-Realize how employee involvement, recognition and other management techniques can actually work against you, and create turnover with certain ethnic groups.

The next day’s session is Succession Planning: Ownership Transfer Techniques That Work. This informative program will deal with proven strategies for transferring the business from current owners to the next generation.

The education sessions punctuate a schedule full of industry committee meetings, networking opportunities and hospitality events. Call AWCI at (703) 538.1600 for more information, or visit www.awci.org.

Two Fund-Raisers Will Debut at AWCI’s Fall Conference

The Foundation of the Wall and Ceiling Industry will debut fun, interesting ways to keep you entertained while supporting the education and research programs of the Foundation. If you plan on attending AWCI’s Industry Executives’ Conference & Committee Week next AUGUST in San Diego, Sept. 18–22, you’ll have the chance to participate in them all!
Start on the morning of Sept. 19 by joining AWCI First Lady Barb Biddle at the Villa di Lusso Spa at the Hilton San Diego Resort for an event for men and women that will benefit AWCI Cares. Highlights include a healthy breakfast, mini-spa treatments and a nice swag bag to walk away with. The cost is $60 per person.

The following night, Sept. 20, is Industry Night. This new fund-raiser will feature a buffet of Mexican cuisine. The Casino Night portion of the event will feature ongoing blackjack, roulette and poker games. For $100, each player will receive a drink ticket and unlimited gaming. The top three finishers will win prizes.

If you bring your children to the conference, be sure to bring them to Casino Night as well. AWCI will have tables for the 16-and-under crowd, with games like Yahtzee and Uno to keep them amused. When dad is playing poker and mom is at the roulette wheel, there is no cost to have their children participate and win some fun prizes.

These events help the Foundation continue programs like AWCI Cares and the Foundation’s Research Series, which last AUGUST brought the Immigration and Construction white paper free to the members of AWCI.
