AWCI on the Job

AWCI’s First Digital Catalog Has Been Released

The Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry’s first digital catalog, AWCI’s Member Products Catalog 2010, has made its debut. AWCI members have known this catalog as the most complete collection of product information from participating member manufacturers, suppliers and distributors. The catalog’s hard copy, now in its 17th year of publication, was mailed to member contractors and dealers throughout North America. For the first time ever, AWCI now also provides the industry as a whole access to this product in digital format. Fully searchable by company name as well as keyword, the digital edition can be downloaded or accessed 24/7 making it even more practical than before. Members received e-mails last month providing the link directly to the digital catalog. To access the digital edition, visit www.awci.org or www.awci.org/cd. Click on the digital edition cover, complete the short questionnaire then view or download your catalog.

AWCI’s Online Buyers’ Guide, www.awci.org/buyersguide, also features the most current information from participating members in AWCI’s Member Products Catalog. Like the printed Buyers’ Guide published in the August edition of this magazine, AWCI’s Online Buyers Guide includes info on all AWCI member suppliers and manufacturers. Featured companies include Armstrong Ceiling Systems, BASF Wall Systems – Finestone and Senergy, Brady Construction Innovations, CEMCO, CertainTeed Gypsum, CertainTeed Insulation, Chicago Metallic Corp., ClarkWestern Building Systems Constru-Flex, Dietrich Metal Framing, Extrutech Plastics Inc., Georgia-Pacific Gypsum, Glasteel, Grabber, Jescraft, Knauf Insulation, Lafarge, Larsen Products, Master Wall Inc., National Gypsum, Niles Building Products, Parex, L.D. Peters & Sons, Inc., Plastic Components, Stuc-O-Flex International, Inc., Telling Industries, Total Wall, Inc., Vinyl Corp. and Western Manufacturing.

AWCI supplier and manufacturers members can update their company information and product offerings by clicking on the “Supplier and Manufacturer Members” box and entering the appropriate user ID and password. When they do so, that new information will be used to form the printed version of the 2010 Buyers’ Guide. Contact Marie Batiste, AWCI’s membership coordinator, at (703) 538.1602 or batiste@awci,org, for your company’s ID and password.

For information about being included as a featured company in the digital edition update as well as in the online guide, contact Brent Stone at (703) 538–1606 or [email protected].

Meet Your Academy 2010 Speakers

Last month we introduced you to the education sessions that will be presented at AWCI’s Academy, and this month we present the speakers for those sessions.

Hassle Free LEED® Certification for Subcontractors, which will help you learn what the LEED® certification process means to you, will be presented by Doreen Verdin, LEED AP and project manager with Turner Construction Company. Verdin has 15 years of experience in the construction industry. Working out of Turner’s Lathrop office in Toledo, Ohio, Verdin has held the role of estimator and project manager on many significant projects. Most recent projects include two LEED projects: a healthcare project pending LEED certification and a LEED certified renovation of the Lathrop corporate office.

The Seismic Ceilings session, which reviews suspended ceiling seismic requirements, application details and resources, will be led by Lee Tedesco, an expert in seismic ceiling construction. Tedesco provides assistance to construction professionals worldwide and has written more than 10 technical publications for trade organizations and online resources. He established the first seismic ceiling resource Web site, seismicceilings.com, creating a new standard for seismic ceiling awareness. Tedesco holds a patent for a seismic ceiling product and has recently filed three additional patents for new seismic ceiling products. He is a member of the ASCE7 seismic committee and a contributing member to many other industry organizations.

Longtime AWCI member Pat Boyd is the speaker for the third session, a condensed presentation of AWCI’s popular Steel—Doing It Right education program. A past president of AWCI, Boyd is the owner of J. Patrick Boyd Consulting Engineers specializing in design calculations and engineered drawings for the use of cold-formed steel framing in commercial applications.
