AWCI Welcomes TLPCA as Its Newest Chapter Member
The Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry, Falls Church, Va., welcomed the Texas Lathing and Plastering Contractors Association as a new chapter member effective Nov. 18, 2009. With more than 40 contracting company members, the addition of TLPCA brings AWCI’s total membership numbers well above 2,200. The national trade association representing wall and ceiling contractors, manufacturers and suppliers/distributors now has 16 chapters throughout North America.
“About 35 percent of TLPCA members were already members of AWCI, so it was a natural progression to include the entire TLPCA membership as part of the national association. We welcome the addition and look forward to working with this well respected Texas group even more closely in the future,” said AWCI President Mike Weber.
“Texas has provided AWCI with many of its leaders,” said TLPCA President Rick Williams, a Dallas contractor. “We are proud that so many TLPCA members have been AWCI presidents and past and current board members. We look forward to growing the membership with improved education programs and other support provided through our affiliation with AWCI.”
The new relationship between the chapter and the national headquarters began with open discussions earlier this fall between AWCI Executive Vice President/CEO Steven Etkin and TLPCA Executive Director Eddie McCormick, and was unanimously approved by the TLPCA board of directors at its Nov. 18, 2009, meeting.
McCormick recently joined TLPCA, which is based in Arlington, Texas, after many years working with a contractor in the Dallas area and has earned the Certified EIFS Professional (CEP) credential from AWCI’s EIFS—Doing It Right program. Both executives agreed that the new Texas chapter will help to strengthen AWCI, and AWCI will help strengthen TLPCA while collectively improving the wall and ceiling industry.
