AWCI on the Job

Ed Sellers to Join AWCI Executive Committee Next Year

Ed Sellers, general manager and vice president for OCP Contractors in Holland, Ohio, was unanimously approved by the AWCI board of directors to join the AWCI Executive Committee as its 2014 secretary. The move, which means Sellers will be AWCI’s president effective July 1, 2018, was made during the Sept. 20AWCI board meeting in San Diego.

In an unprecedented move, the AWCI Nominating Committee put forth two others, securing AWCI’s presidents through 2020. Brian Gordon (New York) will become AWCI’s secretary in 2015, and Jerry Smith’s (Texas) year is 2016. AWCI’s fiscal years begin July 1 and end June 30.

These and other decisions were made during the AWCI Industry Executives’ Conference & Committee Meetings, AWCI’s annual fall conference that attracted more than 130 industry leaders this year. The meeting also featured lots of big winners, including the following:

The Foundation Golf Tournament, which raised funds for both the Foundation of the Wall and Ceiling Industry and AWCI Cares, hosted 28 players but only a handful walked away with trophies. The winning team was a group of contractors from New York: Chris and Dave Boccia, and Lee Zaretzky. Zaretzky also grabbed the Closest to the Pin trophy while National Gypsum’s Steve Cusa won trophies for both the longest drive and the longest putt. National Gypsum, Association of Wall-Ceiling & Carpentry Industries of New York, BakerTriangle, C/F Data Systems, LLC and the EIFS Industry Members Association sponsored this event.

The AWCI Cares Family Feud event saw 21 registrants trying to come up with the most popular answers. In the end, the winning team was made up of Carol Chambers, Jackie Daley and Michelle Brady, who helped raise more than $1,000 for AWCI’s grant-giving program. Thanks go to event sponsors BakerTriangle, Smoky Mountain Materials, Inc., South Central Wall, Ceiling & Plaster Association and PABCO Gypsum.

The conference’s biggest event, the 50-50 raffle, generated more than $12,000 from the sale of more than 100 tickets. First place went to Frank Nunes of the Wall And Ceiling Alliance who won $3,023. Pat Ford of Matsen Ford Design Associates, Inc. won $1,815, and Matt Surowiecki of Steeler, Inc. won $1,210.
