AWCI Insurance Services Expands
When the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry first introduced the AWCI Insurance Company, Ltd. to its members in November 2003, the highlight of the program was that it enabled AWCI member contractors to purchase insurance for their businesses at favorable rates. AIC, Ltd. was also one of the few insurance companies that would cover, with some restrictions, those who apply or distribute exterior insulation and finish systems.
Owing to the success of AIC, The Hartford has agreed to partner with AIC on an expanded range of insurance coverages and will enable the new AWCI Insurance Services to expand to include more states. Now, member contractors in most of the states are eligible. The available coverages are listed in the ad on the opposite page.
Eligible contractors are those who work in drywall framing and installation; ceilings; exterior plastering, including EIFS and stucco; interior plastering; masonry; tile, stone, marble and terazzo. EIFS over wood-framed and/or wood substrate habitational structures are excluded.

Steel—Doing It Right Coming to Bay Area Next Month
The Steel—Doing It Right seminar is coming to California’s Bay Area Oct. 24–26, 2007.
Recent attendees of the seminar told AWCI that it “exceeded their expectations.” Participants from field employees to managers and estimators came out of the seminar “excited and surprised” by the things they learned.
Seminar topics include load bearing and non-load bearing construction, roof assemblies, wind bearing and curtain wall framing, estimating, project management and more.
The two and one-half day seminar is taught by industry experts using slides, graphics, real-life scenarios and question-and-answer periods. Seminar content is based on industry-accepted standards and best practices.
The seminar, organized by AWCI and the Steel Framing Alliance, is designed to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the construction methods and contractors’ issues concerning cold-formed steel.

Free Safety Info Available on AWCI’s Safety Web Site
Have you visited AWCI’s safety Web site lately? If you have been to www.awci.org and clicked on the Safety tab, you know that you can find a free Tool Box Talk every month. Just click on “Safety Calendar,” and you will find a new safety talk is posted every Monday.
Each month will cover a new topic with associated talks for each week. The tool box talks are free, so check out the site and put them to good use. You do not have to subscribe to AWCI’s Safety Software to take advantage of the material posted on the Safety Web site.
The other area of interest is the Message Board. This board is available to post a question or to respond to a question asked by someone else. The Message Board is moderated, and questions are screened prior to being posted. Current access to the Message Board is open to all.
