Jan. 15 Webinar—OSHA Recordkeeping: Who, What, Why and How
There are a number of OHSA records AWCI members must keep, including the injury illness statistics that must be posted by Feb. 1. Ensuring these records are in order can mean the difference between fines or no fines, and a compliance officer’s decision to do a detailed inspection or simply discuss concerns with you.
AWCI and its safety consultant, INTEC, will be conducting a webinar, “OSHA Recordkeeping: Who, What, Why and How,” on Jan. 15, 2009, at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. EST that will identify conditions that determine who needs to keep records, what needs to be kept, penalties associated with failure to comply and how to maintain records. The program will begin with the fundamentals of recordkeeping including a records compliance checklist. It will then address questions that often perplex employers, such as the differences between first aid and medical treatment. The webinar will also review how members can use their OSHA records to nominate their company for AWCI’s 2009 Excellence in Construction Safety Award, which is due Feb. 13.
Upon completion of the basic information, the presenters will review the AWCI eSafetyLine Web site, which offers a simple solution for maintaining all of your records.

Convention Registration Now Available Online
Go to www.awci.org, click on “Convention and INTEX Expo,” and you will be taken to the official Web page for the 2009 annual convention of the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry.
From that Web page you can download an electronic version of the convention/ INTEX brochure. But that’s not all: The site also includes a links for convention registration, hotel reservations and information about specific convention events.
Exhibitors can either download the brochure or click the link to the official INTEX Expo Web site for more details.
AWCI’s 2009 convention, March 24–28 in Nashville, Tenn., will cover educational topics such as insurance, acoustical ceilings, firestop systems, steel framing, LEED® and more. But there will also be time for some fun.
Hospitality activities include a tour of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Historic RCA Studio B, once the recording home of popular music titans such as Elvis Presley, Chet Atkins, Eddy Arnold and the Everly Brothers; a tour of the historic Hermitage Hotel; and a night at the Grand Ole Opry.
Foundation events also offer some fun, while at the same time allowing you to make a charitable contribution simply by participating. The Foundation’s Annual Golf Tournament (see next page) is a traditional favorite, but in 2009 the Foundation will also host a new event—a Jack Daniel’s Whiskey Tasting, which also includes a tour of the Jack Daniel Distillery. Support AWCI Cares by attending the Spa Benefit, a relaxing fund-raiser that includes a personal spa treatment, education sessions and a healthy breakfast.
Remember, too, that the EIFS Industry Members Association will be holding its convention at the same time, in Nashville.

Golf to Raise Money for the Foundation
The Annual Golf Tournament to benefit the Foundation of the Wall and Ceiling Industry is scheduled March 26, 2009, at the Gaylord Springs Golf Links in Nashville, Tenn. Proceeds from the event, which are being held in conjunction with AWCI’s Annual Convention, will benefit the Foundation’s education and research programs.
Designed by former U.S. Open and PGA Champion Larry Nelson, the course stretches over 220 acres of land along the Cumberland River. This public course, now part of the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, includes an antebellum-style clubhouse and a 100-year-old springhouse at the fourth hole.
This scenic course plays through very hilly terrain, so riding carts are mandatory. The fairways are tree lined, and the layout is enhanced by federally protected wetlands. Water hazards come into play on a few holes, and some holes have dual paths to the greens that allow golfers to take the “safe” route or the “show-off” route. The course rating is 74.1, and it has a slope rating of 133 on Zoysia grass.
Voted one of the 10 best courses in Tennessee, it is the former home to the Senior Classic at Gaylord Opryland (1993–2003). After golfing, head back to the 43,000-square-foot antebellum-style clubhouse to shop, dine and take in the views of the golf course.
