A Year of Change

Election year is upon us! 2020 promises to be one of the most exciting election years this country has ever seen. No matter what your political leanings, the 2020 election already seems to be the topic of the year.

Our new leader and CEO, Michael Stark, is preparing for his first convention with AWCI in Las Vegas, March 22–26. While tried and true traditions have been at the forefront of AWCI for many years at AWCI’s Convention, you will see some changes in the future. The AWCI staff and leadership will want feedback after the 2020 convention as they look to broaden the agenda in 2021. I, for one, am very excited to be part of the new leadership and direction of our national organization.

AWCI’s Convention & INTEX Expo continues to be our biggest turnout in not only attendance but participation, especially when it is held in Las Vegas. That is why the location is revisited every third year. It is a great venue for many of us.

In the meantime, here are some of the initiatives the association is working on in 2020:

  • We have renamed the AWCI fall conference. For AWCI’s Industry Leaders Conference (formerly AWCI’s Industry Executives’ Conference & Committee Meetings), we will be working to expand attendance, reinvigorate our marketing approach and promote new and expanded content.

  • A new Association Management Software platform to enhance the ability for members to update their profile, register for AWCI events, involve others from their company and to better engage in their association in the future.

  • An independent review of all AWCI communications to ensure the right information is getting to the right people in the right way.

  • A stronger partnership between the AWCI and its network of chapters to better serve members.

  • A renewed focus on membership benefits includes new programs and services, either developed in-house or with trusted partners, to make AWCI membership an easy decision each year.

  • Leadership and staff will review all committees, councils and forums to ensure our lineup is current and relevant to members. Each group will have a clear mission, vision and active volunteer membership.

  • The rollout of a stucco inspection program in 2020. Subject matter experts met last fall, and the course content has been outlined.

I look forward to seeing you next month in Las Vegas. If you haven’t registered yet, please do so at www.awci.org/convention.
